Finca Sophia is a 1900 - 2150 Meters Farm

Because of its extreme altitude, we viewed Finca Sophia from the beginning as an experimental farm, and we wondered if coffee would even grow so high. What challenges does extreme altitude create for coffee production? For one, the beans being closer to the sun increases their risk of being burned by UV rays, and also ups their exposure to wind and rain that can spread disease. Additionally, Finca Sophia’s pattern of warm days and frigid nights slows the maturation cycle of the cherries.
